I have no idea what to look for. I just want something easy & comfy. Its only for cycling round N Belfast. What should I be looking for?
Popped into bikedock earlier and they had a nice pre-owned one, just my size, plus other new ones. Going back tomorrow to test some out but what brands etc are good?
Oh, am getting a kid trailer for the back too if the weight makes a difference to certain bikes...

What lube does everyone use? Never really understood the difference between wet and dry lube.

0 |

Wet lube stays moist. Dry lube moisture evaporates off and leaves a lubricating coating on the part (usually teflon).

If it's for your drive chain, use GT85. It leaves a teflon coating and the moisture evaporates off, meaning the lube doesn't attract and stick dust/dirt/grime, meaning less mess, less wear (when the dust dirt gets stuck, it can increase wear). You should just spray a blast on after cleaning, etc.

Huge bike. Would eat anything up.

I can get an ex demo one for $3,300. It costs about £6000 back home afaik

0 |

Can you get me one, too? ;)

0 |

Sheeeit, that fluoro wilier is sex.

Managed to catch a bus yesterday, it passed my and more or less sucked me into its slipstream, quality. 30+ mph the whole way down the antrim road with minimal pedalling. Strava KOMs all over the place

0 |

No sweat takkman. Just wire me the money.

1 |

Are there any decent ex demo enduro bikes knocking around over there? I'd love a big DH rig, but need something more of an all rounder to justify the money.

0 |

There are loads of them. There'll be a much better selection at the end of this season though. All the shops are desperate to get rid of this year's stock before winter. I'll be home at Christmas so I could bring one back if you were serious about getting one.

0 |

Keep me posted! Will need to see what the money situation is like never the time.

Did a bit more work on my '96 Kona Explosif restore there at the weekend. Starting to come together nicely...

So many big DH bikes going for cheap these days... www.facebook.com/group...

Everyone going mad about how brilliant the 2nd round of the Enduro World Series in Wicklow was at the weekend there... www.pinkbike.com/news/...

That kona is a pure buck takki. Looks lethal.

Back home an enduro makes way more sense. I'm tempted to buy a big travel enduro with slack geo so I can ride the bike park, and enduro stuff. The breaking bumps in the bike park are a big problem with an enduro though. I also despise pedalling up hill.

Anyone recommend a good saddle type for long distance (80k+) road cycling? Took a tumble a few weeks ago and scratched the shite out of the side of my original one, cycle shop replaced it with a Selle Big Bum style thing which I don't really like, but it might be necessary for comfort over those sorts of distances.

0 |

its really more the shorts you wanna be spending your money on. i had a £100 fizik saddle on my last bike, but on this one i have a £20 selle italia one, which ive ridden 180km on. there's no difference comfort-wise between the two. I would say at least get one with a cut-out, but apart from that? spend more time getting shorts with a good chamois.

0 |

I've just been using Nike compression trousers that I used to use for running, they're very comfortable, very little friction or that.

0 |

i would say then that even a cheapo pair of cycling shorts from decathlon would improve your comfort tenfold over a pair of compression trousers. and get bibshorts, if you're going to be in the saddle for any length of time, a waistband digging in/rubbing will only cause you grief.

0 |

get yourself on ali express for bib shorts

0 |

it's true, chep chinese bibshorts will do the trick, and i have loads knocking about the gaff, but you get what you pay for when it comes to shorts.

Another recommendation needed - I've got a large ABUS U-lock mounted onto my frame, and I bought a second one mini U-lock to lock the front wheel to the frame, but I need to find a good way to store it. So, has anyone seen any mounts that work for ABUS mini U-locks? I bought a set of Doodads and am using those to strap it to the cross-bar, but it's not ideal.

0 |

......why not lock your bike up like www.jimlangley.net/cra... with one lock?

0 |

Front wheel is more hassle to take off than a spare lock is to carry, imo anyway.

Front wheel theft common where you live Matthew?

I carry a spare lock in my backpack to lock up in dodgy areas.

0 |

oh do you have disc brakes or something? takes about 20 secs to take off a shimano rim brake wheel. on a road bike, mountain bike might be more melty?

Mini kryptonite's go in jeans backpocket. Never had bother with it feeling bulky of that
