Christmas 2017

1

I absolutely despise this time of year. For the religious people I completely understand. Celebrating the birth of their saviour. Fantastic. Fair play. But the forced bollocks that comes with it for the rest of the population. Oh we can get together. YOU CAN GET TOGETHER ANY TIME YOU WANT. The commercialism. The presents. Forced socialising and happiness. And then the financial pressure it puts on families. It's a horrible holiday and shouldn't exist in the.modern age.

Bless

1 |

Peace be with you. And also with you.

2 |

Usually I would agree with you but this year feels different somehow.

0 |

2 weeks off work ftw. End of the year, time to take stock of what you've done and what you want to do over the next 365. Yeah there's bollocks that goes with it, but don't get sucked in to it too much.

0 |

Take stock. Yeah I'll definitely be doing plenty of that.

0 |

"Forced socialising and happiness"

You can crawl back under your rock in January.

0 |

Oh don't worry about that. I won't be coming out of from under my rock. There'll be no forced socialising here.

0 |

Was it you who heard your ma riding in the next room at Christmas or something s2?

0 |

Here ya go mate: www.amazon.co.uk/Women...

I don't do it....no cards, no tree, no crimbo music, no decorations, no turkey (never really did that as none of our like it). Last year took Ma to Prague....was great craic...we got pished. This year we head to Krakow......will get pished in the Jewish bit as they don't do Xmas! Yeooooo!

1 |

Christian Festival is neither here nor there but it's a good chance to catch up with family and friends. Not because it's Christmas but everyone is off at the same time. I personally love Christmas. Always have, always will.

0 |

All we need now is Doombadger to come in and say he loves the festive period

0 |

I love Christmas

2 |

I look forward to it but it's got serious issues. Christmas is the poster boy for commercialisation and it seems relentless. The pressure on people to spend their money on shite for the most is off the scale now.

Best time of year for me

1 |

First year spending Christmas away from family and friends as I'm traveling through central America at the moment (blatant). Doesn't feel like Christmas to me at all as it isn't being jammed down my throat every second of the day. Tho it will be werid not sitting at the table with family come Christmas day.

0 |

Moving house the week before. We don't go in for it other than eating a feast and doing some mates craic.

0 |

Here Mincer, it'll be a white Christmas for you though ya hure ye. Rockin the Peruvian.

4 |

Most people put pressure on themselves to spend crazy amounts on things they don't need.

0 |

Never mind s2. Found the posts I was thinking of:

s2 • 1 year, 10 months ago
My ma just got carried to bed by her husband. She is fucked.

s2 • 1 year, 10 months ago
Plus she keeps saying he "will get his Christmas present first thing in the morning". I'm in the next room. I do not need to hear my ma getting bucked.

Fortunately that never panned out for him. Or they were quiet. The everyone is off thing doesn’t fly with me either. Maybe I’m lucky that generally everyone I know is off every weekend so can meet up pretty much anytime. Though I’m also lucky in that there are very few people I want to spend any time with which just makes it that bit easier and better.

1 |

I love Crimbo.
I get why a lot of people hate it and understand some families struggle but mine always went to great lengths to make sure we enjoyed it so i intend to continue in that spirit

Down to personal experiences Shane. My house is the centre of Christmas for the family. My parents, brother and wife's brother usually come stay with us. I see my brother probably about 3 or 4 times a year at most. I have kids, my friends have kids so I don't get to see them most weekends. Helps if you get on with your family I suppose. I don't particularly like the commercialisation of the thing but when kids are involved and family it just makes the whole thing.

0 |

Everything is commercialised, yes Christmas more than most but it’s what you make of it and those who go into debt over Christmas would probably be in debt if Christmas didn’t exist.

I love it, great buzz in my house and seeing mates who live in different countries coming home for Christmas

1 |

But it's reached ultra levels now. If you have a general distaste for commercialisation anyway, Christmas is like the mother load.

Pockets of good stuff in there of course but so many moments of wtf. It's all a bit maddening as soon as you stop to consider any of it. Best not to as we all know.

The fact that people are getting wound up about the John Lewis ad not being as much a tear jerker this year was the pinnacle of Christmas going full retard. I understand the family stuff Andy and the kids. I can see why it makes it a lot better.

My sister had a baby a few months back so I'm hoping having a child in the family might make it a bit more magical.

0 |

Kids, family, swal, grub. What the fucks not to like?

3 |

I love Christmas that much I look forward to John Lewis ad. I’ve never been in one.

0 |

Best time of the year. Get presents, Chance to be greedier than usual, no dirty looks for being a raging alco for 2 weeks, football, raves everywhere and off work for all of it.

Whats not to like about it

3 |

If everyone made the decision just to take it easy this Christmas, the economy would collapse...it's your duty to piss it up the wall.

Like I said, as soon as you think about it, hard to make any sense of it.

0 |

Definitely a bunch of old feckers in here lol Christmas is the best time of year apart from the coldness.

0 |

? It looks like most here love Christmas

0 |

The ones complaining I mean. Understand their reasons but sure it's a month or so to feel good and drink and eat like fook

0 |

Even town looks nicer with lights on etc

As a kid I loved when the stores did their Christmas displays. Leisureworld always a fav

0 |

I like the cold.

Christmas hangovers can fuck off though

0 |

We need a blast of snow this year. White Christmases are great. Getting all wrapped up to go out in it, then when you get back in, mulled wine, ham sammidges and the fire on. Unreal.

0 |

No surprise Takki prefers a White Christmas M I RITE?

10 |

I hate Christmas but as we're in new house I'm actually excited to decorate it and not have to travel home/in-laws on Christmas Eve etc. I've invited everyone in family so if people want to come to me then I'm hoping it will be better (for me ;)). No one has said yes mind you haha

But yeah the whole Christmas shopping/music in shops does my loaf in.

1 |

best time o the year, 16days off work, loads of toys to play with and build, big open fire, turkey sammiches, turn into a dipso.. what the fuck is there not to love about it

2 |

did i mention guilt free drinking for 2 weeks...

0 |

Always a decent mass too Christmas. Everyone in their new clobber.

1 |

i live close by to a church and an aul atheist like me loves hearing the church bells, especially round xmas

2 |

Can't beat an aul viewing of Home Alone and Die Hard, while devouring a full tin of quality street. Shane you are mental

0 |

treat you self to a bacon oven S2. Then you'll always remember it fondly

0 |

Diehard and Gremlins are two staples in my house around xmas

1 |

Never realised before gremlins is a 15 until researching it last week. Some difference in what makes a 15 currently

0 |

It must be time to watch the fine spruce clip surely??

Getting my tree tonight and already put up some lights and my little penguin by the door so the milkman and kids in the street can feel festive.

I'm freaking now cos I'm cooking for 8 then 12 on Boxing Day. Any advice?!

1 |

Stew or soup.keep it simple

0 |

Well my sis in law demands consommé but I might have to say no or else bring your own tin of it and heat it in the microwave

0 |

I've 10 people this Christmas day as well Duffy. The key is getting shit done early and prep done Christmas eve. Always fun out cooking Christmas day, sipping away as you go. Bombed by dinner time lol.
