Gaming 2017

2

A potentially great year ahead with games such as Crackdown, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 7, The Legend of Zelda Breath Of The Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn.

New console from Nintendo (Switch) and Microsoft (Project Scorpio)

And potentially find out of VR was a passing gimmick, or if it has legs.

I'm just waiting until very average PC's can run VR at full detail without graphics and frame-rate compromise. I'd probably only use it for driving games and combat flight sims anyway.

The VR gives me motion sickness, worst was the Drive Club demo. The fact the you believe you are going high speed around corners can't help but fuck with the job your inner ears does.

All them VR youtube videos are pretty nasty for it too. I wonder is this something the body will eventually compensate for...

"How is the porn industry not doing exactly that wayne?"

Uummm... I didn't say it wasn't.

Big night tonight with the new mouse and monitor lads

What mouse did you get?

Got this a few months ago:

A while back I tried about 5 different mice to get the one that felt best in my hand. Found the Razer Deathadder felt best for size, shape and weight, so a year or two ago I got a Razer Deathadder for a decent price as it was an earlier model. Was great compared to a normal mouse, but I still found in CSGO I couldn't get a 180° turn done in one go. It was like when I was turning, the mouse would hit a speed limit or something. So I'd been on the lookout for a up to date mouse with faster sensor and ended up getting a Razer Deathadder Elite when it was in their 50% off sale. Put on CSGO the other night when I got it, just to test it out, and it works amazing. It's also had a few design and ergonomic tweaks which are great.

Big CSGO tournament on this weekend too.

takki - donewmouseaccel.blogsp...

Yeah, been using that for a good few years now, acid.

0 |

Nice mouse...but it needs MOAR buttons

0 |

I did try a mouse with more buttons but found them not really that reasonable to use, especially in quick gameplay.

Got a £20 aff code on over £100 spend at Razor store if anyone wants. Not sure if I need to use it with my account or not, but worth a try.

0 |

i use a logitech M705 in work & at home and its the perfect wee mouse, had a gamer mouse that came with weights ffs and myriad of other shite that no doubt made you moar gamerz but it broke

0 |

I got a Logitech G502 last year, It came will all the wights etc and millions of ways to set up the buttons and colours for gaming. Notice no real difference with all the weights in or out so just left them all in. Has a nice scroll wheel that when unlocked spins freely which is handy, but when locked makes a loud clicking noise does my head in. Will be looking for a new one this summer.

0 |

I have the Logitech G640 - took all the weights out and glued the base up as the magnet didn't hold it on properly. Went though about 5 mice last year from madkatz RAT to corsair m65 - every one the thumbs button went dead/caved in - I think I'll stick with logitech from here on in.

0 |

If I could still use my MX-518 I would, it was mouse perfection, alas just not a high enough dpi for a modern ultrawide screen, though the g400s is a fine replacement imo..

0 |

ps needs an awesome drift mouse mat (large) FTW! also see there is a new elite class specialising in grenades coming to BF1 in the new dlc, lol. DICE fucking trolling hard..

0 |

Ace Combat 7 on PSVR looks pretty stunning. Online dogfighting flight sim would be pretty cracker for VR.

0 |

lol except the ace combat games basically play themselves, there's not much to do in them.

Any of you tried origin access? Thinking of just getting it for a month and trying to smash through unraveled and dragon age inquisitions with a bit of battlefront thrown in, Does anyone still play titan fall 1?

Can you download all the games at once? or is it limited to how many games you can have loaded at once?

0 |

Only limit is your disk space.

0 |

went ahead and got it. been ages since i last used origin and i see it has not got much better. Had crashing after every match in battlefront and titanfall, messed about for a bit and turned off origin while in game and haven't had a crash since. Bit of a joke having to disable their own system to get their games to run.

On the other hand big thumbs up on unravel. A side scroller done well is hard to beat,

0 |

I thought you meant EA Access. Sorry :-/

0 |

Think unravel would be up your street wayne.

0 |

Yeah, bought it when it came out. Decent wee game, but I think my opinions on it was skewed slightly by the fact I spent £16 on it.

0 |

Yea im well pleased with it for a fiver. Any of you play the dragon age games? Have only played origins, dragon age 2 does not get very good reviews, does it need to be played before inquisition? or am i fine to just skip 2? Dont really want to have to stick 30 hours into 2 if its a bag of shit.

0 |

I thought Dragon Age 2 was mainly criticised for being "more of the same" rather than having anything wrong with it as such.
Pretty sure Inquisition is a stand alone story.

0 |

#PCMasterRace

144hz and G-SYNC is unreal. Smoothest visuals I've ever seen. I definitely would recommend making sure a monitor has them (or equivalent) if you're upgrading.

0 |

Inquisition was one of the best games I played last gen, really enjoyable RPG....then the Witcher 3 came out and blew it away.

Takk, what games did you test out?

0 |

Tried it with Crysis 2, CSGO, No Mans Sky, Portal 2, Firewatch and Metro 2033 as that's all I have installed at the mo.

Played a fair bit of CSGO tho and it was epic with it's super high FPS etc.

0 |

Love hearing when gamers spunking out on new kit and then play Counter Strike.

0 |

its all about the ms & fps's

0 |

Sure we play urban terror every lunchtime in work which is running on the Quake3 engine but even at 1440p the engine doesn’t support any higher than 100fps, well that’s what my comp is maxing it out as

0 |

How come, Wayne?

0 |

Any of youz play H1Z1: King of the Kill?

0 |

Cus CS:GO don't take much of a beefy system to play does it? You've bought a sports car to get stuck in 20mph traffic, so to speak.

0 |

Depends how well you want it to run. Which massively affects how competitive you will be.

0 |

tbf high fps gaming 120/144fps, is mainly for competitive multiplayer. counter strike is still one of the top FPS multiplayer games.

0 |

Wayne with a swing and a miss there.
Strayed out of his comfort zone and took a headshot

0 |

Think im going to enjoy dragon age inqusitions. First big rpg i have played in a while i have just been able to jump right in and enjoy right from the start. No healing spells i can see so far which seems strange.

But it seems really badly optimised, initial load times can be about a minute and have a few texture pop ins here and there. Have to be honest apart from unravel all the games i have tried from origin have had something wrong with them in one way or another. How does a big company like ea have such a bad spell of games that have technical problems.

0 |

Is it like Skyrim?

0 |

is it fuck like Skyrim, i give it my now customary 15-20hrs worth before throwing in the the towel, starts off good but for me it all quickly unraveled with a shite hard to follow story and uninteresting characters.. i really hope the new Mass Effect goes in a different direction as i just cant seem to get into Biowares games

0 |

someone hit someone ffs PETA wants Warhammer characters to stop wearing "FAKE DIGITAL" furs now www.pcgamer.com/peta-w...

0 |

Its a bit more like witcher 2 than it is skyrim. Obviously dont know about the whole game but from what i have played it seems on par with origins in terms of conversations and depth etc. Thats what i think makes those games good is the travelling with a party and learning the way they all get on together and with you.

This Hitman advert....

DAI gives the illusion of an open world through its large zones. It isn't as linear as the Witcher 2. One of DAI's biggest strengths is the development of the characters and relationships.

I'd say RPG elements of the game as much stronger than Skyrim at times, especially when you start working towards good gear/ability setups. Skyrim's progression boils down to how many enchanted daggers you can be bothered crafting and selling.

0 |

I really enjoyed DAI. Thought the characters were really well done. Plus you can ride everyone. My turned my character gay and rid one of the other gays.

Is 3DMark still the best tool for benchmarking graphics?

0 |

Yes and no

A mix of games using different engines is a much better indicator

0 |

3DMark is probably the biggest/most well known benchmark, but it's not perfect. Usually, for an in-depth test, reviewers/enthusiasts will use several benchmarks tools and then test a range of games, also. If you're just wanting a fairly decent, all round GFX benchmark, you'll get a decent idea of how your system is doing from 3DMark.
