Science Fiction (Scifi / Sci fi /Sci-fi)

3

Know there's a good few sci-fi fans on here, so starting this thread for all things scifi. Books, audiobooks, films, TV, whatever.

Will start off with this...

First Trailer For Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End TV Miniseries - io9.com/first-trailer-...

I haven't read the book, but it gets rave reviews - www.amazon.co.uk/Child...

Just downloaded the audiobook there for the car. There seems to be a full cast version available. Can provide links, if anyone is interested.

oh - another excellent book that I read recently: "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August"

0 |

I am VERY excited about this... io9.com/sorry-interste...

0 |

Has anyone else read the book yet?

0 |

Moon is one of my favourite films-pure class;)

0 |

Yes takki I mentioned it on the previous page, brilliant book

1 |

Sorry, I've still not had a chance to fully catch up on the thread. I'm so glad the initial preview of the film was taken well by the book fans. Really hope they don't try and bling it up too much for the big screen.

yowza , Giger doc

1 |

His is a museum I'd love to visit

0 |

looks like a cross between Dead Space and The Thing, probably a bit silly but sure,
Infini

0 |

Oh shit I had no idea they were even making a Giger documentary. He's in the Jodorowsky's Dune doc quite a bit and is visibly shaky and ill, god love him. Can't wait to see that.

1 |

Looks right up my street tbf, haven't seen a really good space horror since Pandorum

1 |

Really need to see that Dune doc ffs. Yea I really enjoyed Pandorum, was surprised it got such a slating

0 |

I've no idea why it got slated tbf, it's class, effects are great has some nice jumps and creepy bits and I loved the ending, up there with event horizon

1 |

watched event horizon again a while ago, sheesh it's still one creepy ass film, those recordings give me the heebie jeebies.

0 |

I had a lodger once who completely shit his nerves out during Event Horizon.....I didn't get the horror at all....thought it was a pretty weak movie all in....must rewatch.

0 |

definitely liked it more on a second watch myself zygote, seen it a few times now, there's a few characters that are a bit shite, like that floppy haired cunto that was in the bon jovi video, but the concept itself is creepy as fook

0 |

scanner darkly & fear and Loathing are two films I enjoyed much more than the books, must watch a scanner darkly again, ain't seen it in beards.

1 |

This looks very promising...

watched Lucy and Edge Of Tomorrow this week. both enjoyable little flicks.

0 |

Edge of tomorrow was surprisingly brilliant, with some great scenes, was expecting a soso cruise flick and ended up with one of the better scifi flicks in recent years

watched Ex Machina last night. recommend it. don't go beneath the fold on the imdb page or you'll get spoilers in the forum/review part.

0 |

I stuck Chappie on last night and had to turn it off half way through because it was unbelievably bad. I thought I was a Blomkamp fan but it seems I'm just a District 9 fan. Would not recommend.

Found out yesterday that The Serenity appears in Battlestar Galactica.
Pleasing wee nerd bomb.

0 |

Aww, serious Debbie?? I didn't even know it was available for DL. I was really looking forward to it. Boooo

0 |

Where, rubkick?? I'm watching through all of BSG again as my GF had never seen it. It's still absolutely brilliant, too. Doesn't feel like it's aged at all. Probably my all time fave sci-fi TV show, tbh.

0 |

Is Firefly any good? I liked the film Serenity but watched the first ep of Firefly and wasnt all that taken with it, worth another go?

0 |

Yeah, it's great. Really cool future/wild west vibe off it once you get into it. Good characters, too. Must actually see if the other half has seen it. I'd happily watch it again. Shame they finished it.

1 |

It's in the pilot, Takki. Read it on Cracked yesterday, second one down.

The BSG Blu-rays are out, £30 is a great price. Will defnitely be getting those bucked.

Class

Have anyone watched any of the spin off BSG series ('Caprica' or 'Blood & Chrome'), btw?

Check this out for geek porn:

I haven't even seen the final five episodes of the main series ffs. Missed one when it was on TV and didn't get around to seeing the rest. This boxed set contains Razor and the main series 1-4. Haven't seen Caprica or Blood and Chrome yet.

What are die antwoord like in it bradders?

0 |

anyone else watched Ex Machina? you will all like it, some of you may even love it.

0 |

Ex Machina and Her. Two great films out pretty recently.

1 |

www.telegraph.co.uk/ne... wtf?

0 |

Tomorrowland is shite then, massive shame really, Brad Bird is usually reliably excellent :(

0 |

+1 on both those takki, two of my favs of the last few years.

0 |

Just watched Ex Machina......easily the best Sci Fi in the last 10 years......bar the re release of Brade Lunner of course

0 |

Ex Machina, what a show

0 |

Watched Project Almanac yesterday. OK. Just.

0 |

i have that downloaded, is it worth a watch?

0 |

is that the one about time travel and a bunch of american teens? Saw a trailer for it , thought it looked really irritating lol.

0 |

It was just about OK. I wouldn't worry if you've other stuff to watch. If you're really bored some time, it would probably do.

It's basically a big budget, teen version of Primer.

0 |

so its no butterfly effect

0 |

The Martian viral...

0 |

Good "trailer" that, wonder if they'll keep that format until release - the book starts with them already at Mars, so they could do a load of these things in a sort of "real time" on the lead up to the arrival of the film.

0 |

Of course it's probably meaningless to non-book readers, I guess?

0 |

Heard the audiobook of this is good. Should check it out
