Sinn Féin getting fairly shown up here regarding this welfare reform farce. Seems like they've been caught out spoofing to their electorate and the facts about it are stacking up against them. IMO, it looks like that they've cooked this up to try and win votes from the vulnerable people who would be interested in the welfare reform (that they claim to be looking out for) and they've been caught out. It was either a lie, or they just got the facts and finances completely wrong. Either way their excuses reek of

This is why folks need to protest vote and vote Alliance or Green. It's clear the DUP and Sinn Féin aren't capable of being realistic in running the place. The DUP and their backward views, then Sinn Féin and their blatant spoofing. I don't understand why people cant see through it all.

I don't think I need to go in to reasons why the DUP shouldn't get any votes, but their views on equality is reason enough, alone. Sinn Féin make these wondrous claims to win votes (it would seem by preying on the vulnerable, in this case, and people who actually have real issues and shouldn't be used as political ammunition)... then you've got the stories of SF being involved in IRA sex abuse.

People need to use their vote to show that we don't want this nonsense any more. Stop the tribal nonsense and use your vote to damage these two main parties. It's the only way things will change.

lol aul Leo destroying Mary Lou McDonald

independent.bbvms.com/...

0 |

To be fair she had him on the issue of the aib tax exemption. It's a fucking disgrace.

0 |

Lost any advantage by getting on like that tho

0 |

Haven't watched it yet but yeah.

0 |

Is she fucking texting during that?

Fair play to Leo. They should be getting called out on a regular basis now for the absolute lack of progress, and transparency. Arlene also complaining this week about her MLAs being shouted at during a public meeting on health cuts.

Hopefully people are losing patience.

0 |

Arlene using great imagination and artistic license about the public meeting on health cuts it would seem.

SF are def playing games though. This all started when they pulled out of government over... RHI. When have you last heard them mention RHI? They pretty quickly realised that they couldn't hold everyone to ransom with that as there was an investigation into it and it would have to play out first, so they switched to the Irish language act.

They won't even say what it is they want from the Irish language act because if they keep it vague, they can keep this impasse going as long as they can until they can get something that they can use to drive more demands down the line. Meanwhile we all have to sit her watching health, education, social services suffer. And fuck all is being done about Brexit, which is probably another reason SF don't want to be in Government as they don't want to be involved with that, and health reform.

Also, remember they caused months and months of delays over welfare reform, which didn't amount to much. Think there was big fines foe that too, maybe.

Between them and the DUP, it's a total joke.

0 |

The equality thing is just a front they are vague on that also, they couldn't answer weather they would go back into government without gay marriage being implemented.

0 |

Stopped reading (literally) at SF are def playing games though.

Would you stop, takki

SFs end goal is to destabilise DUPs stranglehold on the majority vote, dilute it and gain a majority then eventually more for a united Ireland. Anyone can see that regardless of your political stance, it's basic politics employed all over the world.

The DUPs tactic is to rubbish SF and convince their voters through paranoia and control they need DUP to maintain their identity etc. Again their end goal is maintaining that majority vote and remaining part of the UK

Both parties have their agenda and neither is the greater good of everyone in the country.

There's no debating that as it's glaringly obvious and not sure why I feel the need to even state it.

Therefore both sides can't really sort this shitfest out as they are both at too much of a different place politically and any movement will only give the opposing party a slight advantage over the other

Dicks

2 |

Politics = making opposing party look shit and we are a better choice.

Manipulate every situation regardless of impact or cost to the voting public. Ruthless cunts with no empathy for the people they represent.

0 |

Exactly, Muzka. Neither want whats best for everyone.

DUP are backwards and have too many religious beliefs in their policies and SF are happy to use societies issues to further their cause. And while the two of them can't organise a piss up in a brewery between them, everyone gets fucked over. It's grim as. Alliance are the only party these days which genuinely seems like 'us/them' isn't their main agenda.

What do youz think about them getting their pay reduced/stopped? They should get a pay reduction IMO. I bet things would start happening a good bit quicker then.

0 |

DUP, SF & TUV make good tv you see Alliance never get a look in on those tv debates as they are not radical or extremist so really Nolan and BBC are to blame for stirring shit up and making voters paranoid and reluctant to change. Alliance def needs a few characters to take the fight to them.

0 |

lol @ wee chip. Stops reading when the unsavoury truth hits him. He's the other side of the coin from a bible thumping DUP voter.

0 |

No point getting worried up about it all tbh. Just chill out and take comfort in the knowledge that eventually operation outbreed will bear fruit and we'll have a United Ireland.

0 |

"Also, remember they caused months and months of delays over welfare reform, which didn't amount to much. Think there was big fines foe that too, maybe."

Thanks to those delays, a lot of people here have benefited, where they have been fucked over in GB - No bedroom tax for one eg.

0 |

NI welfare system 'most protected in the UK'
m.belfasttelegraph.co....

0 |

It's bad when TJs the only man talking sense here ffs.

This greater good for everyone shit doesn't exist. No more status quo appeasing unionist strategy that's gone

SF represent a large proportion of people on the island that aspire to reunification

Hard line unionists like Takki and Muzka shouldn't be afraid of that democratic right. lol

0 |

"Thanks to those delays, a lot of people here have benefited, where they have been fucked over in GB - No bedroom tax for one "

That didn't come about because of SF. Other parties worked for it, too. SF were claiming to want more, which they never got. All they got us were extra fines due to them using people on benefits to get votes. If SF are really that concerned about the most vulnerable in society, then they shouldn't be letting health, education and other really important social issues suffer at the minute off the back of something they should be sorting through in Government i.e. doing their jobs.

I'm not worried about a UI at all. Sure I've got both passports. If it's proven to be better for us socially and financially, get'er bucked. Pulling the aul 'themuns are just unionists' crap is textbook Chip spiel. I'm just not bitter like you, that's probably why you need to make stuff like that up to try and prove your point. I just want all of society to work for what's best for everyone. Democracy. Not holding a whole society to ransom so you can get your own way e.g SF.

The Legislative Consent Motion tabled by Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey was passed by 70 votes to 22 with the backing of the powersharing administration's two largest parties, the Democratic Unionists and Sinn Fein, after a long debate in Parliament Buildings, Belfast.

Ulster Unionist and SDLP members were among those MLAs who voiced strong opposition to the move.

The motion's passage will enable long-delayed legislative changes to Northern Ireland's benefits system to be enacted at Westminster.

The welfare impasse, caused by Sinn Fein's refusal to sign up to the proposals, has been overcome by the Executive committing to spend £585 million, over the next four years, to provide top-up payments to those losing out under changes to the benefits and tax credit systems. The DUP and Sinn Fein have insisted the controversial so-called bedroom tax will not be introduced in Northern Ireland.

However, SDLP deputy leader Fearghal McKinney accused Sinn Fein of a "U-turn" on welfare.

"We are being asked to hand over to the Tories - or 'Thatcher's children' as Martin McGuinness likes to call it - decisions on legislating on welfare," he said.

"Only a matter of weeks ago Sinn Fein would have described this as a huge serious mistake but now Sinn Fein are doing Tory austerity, and in spades."

Alliance Party MLA Stewart Dickson said his party was supporting the Welfare Bill but had serious concern about how it was being passed, accusing Sinn Fein and the DUP of playing a game of "pass-the-parcel legislation".

Wonder who SF try and get more money from and who'll they'll blame for issue when they get UI. They'll not have their default scape goat of the Brits to blame or pester for more money. Big civil service workforce to find jobs for, too.

0 |

Default scapegoats will be the West Brits Fianna Fail/Fianna Gael.

I'm not sure i'm comfortable with this 'when' craic from dirty and takki, have even the hardline unionists giving up on saving the union?

0 |

You see that's the difference. They are sound people happy with any rule that's best for the people. They aren't like the bitters that just can't let the past go and accept they are ruled by the queen, Prince Charles and Britain.

Green Party leader Steven Agnew says that while he backs an Irish Language Act, he doesn't "support Sinn Fein bringing this country to its knees".

Addressing his party's conference in Belfast at the weekend, Mr Agnew said Sinn Fein in particular was responsible for the chaos in health and education due to the lack of a budget.

"It was historic when Sinn Fein took the reins of finance for the first time in 2016. It was a disgrace when for the first time ever Northern Ireland was left without a budget," he said.

"Yes, I support an Irish Language Act. Greens have supported indigenous languages across Europe. But let me very clear. I do not support Sinn Fein bringing this country to its knees.

He added: "If Sinn Fein were serious about these issues, the solution would be to get agreement on reform of the petition of concern. However, this has been little more than a side issue of the discussions."

He said the petition of concern hadn't been made an issue because it wouldn't bring people onto the streets.

"It does not tap into the historical division of Northern Irish society ... it does not fit the Sinn Fein divide and conquer strategy," he continued.

www.belfasttelegraph.c...

0 |

Yeah.. go back into Government and THEN they'll get the Irish Language act..

Cos that would work.

0 |

Probably a little difficult to see or understand for someone with the bitter blinkers on, but as Steven Agnew was pointing out, they need to reform the petition of concern and it would go far further to solving this than the stalemate at the moment, but SF dont want that as they cant keep holding the country to ransom by finding a solution.

He also highlighted the fact that when SF took over the finances, everything has came apart and there's no budget... funny that.

well they are a bunch of ex terrorists and gangsters tbf
