Sinn Féin getting fairly shown up here regarding this welfare reform farce. Seems like they've been caught out spoofing to their electorate and the facts about it are stacking up against them. IMO, it looks like that they've cooked this up to try and win votes from the vulnerable people who would be interested in the welfare reform (that they claim to be looking out for) and they've been caught out. It was either a lie, or they just got the facts and finances completely wrong. Either way their excuses reek of

This is why folks need to protest vote and vote Alliance or Green. It's clear the DUP and Sinn Féin aren't capable of being realistic in running the place. The DUP and their backward views, then Sinn Féin and their blatant spoofing. I don't understand why people cant see through it all.

I don't think I need to go in to reasons why the DUP shouldn't get any votes, but their views on equality is reason enough, alone. Sinn Féin make these wondrous claims to win votes (it would seem by preying on the vulnerable, in this case, and people who actually have real issues and shouldn't be used as political ammunition)... then you've got the stories of SF being involved in IRA sex abuse.

People need to use their vote to show that we don't want this nonsense any more. Stop the tribal nonsense and use your vote to damage these two main parties. It's the only way things will change.

Some reports saying it's looking like DUP making gains and heading for 40 seats. How grim is that.

0 |

#gainz

0 |

I heard reports some DUP seats were won because of low preference votes. If eejits hadnt ticked all the boxes they wouldnt have got in.

2 |

How the fuck are the DUP doing better after near continuous scandal and fuck ups... Fucking Huns

0 |

When will prolific Catholic breeding tip the population towards a Nationalist majority?

0 |

Hard to watch so many wannabe politicians talk the game this past few weeks. Glad Gerry, Claire Bailey and hopefully Eammon McCann made it. Fresh faces who don't feel the need to speak using that thumb point mannerism every time. That just says to me someone can't be trusted

0 |

McCann is in.

Should bring youthful enthusiasm at 73 yes old

0 |

He's some boy. Lucky to be able to vote for him in Foyle, I assume you would have.

0 |

Thought you said he was no threat Muzak?

Glad to see him in

0 |

He was no threat cos SF were never getting 3 seats. He's took an SDLP seat

0 |

So on that basis I'm also.. Glad to see him in

1 |

He's articulate for sure. Strong candidates in Foyle with 2 party leaders and mc cann.

0 |

Mcguiness topped the poll?

0 |

Obvious threat though. Taking a seat at this stage and can only grow in popularity

0 |

Eammon is a dyed in the wool socialist. I voted for him when I lived in derry and he was doing sit ins at Raytheon. People Before Profit indeed. He can see that the economic model we have made for ourselves is ultimately self defeating in terms of environmental sustainability and social justice, and ultimately a race to the bottom. Most of our politicians wouldn't have a perspective on things beyond the end of their nose.

0 |

I think pbp are more a threat to SDLP. they seem to be sinking and hAve been for years. honestly couldn't tell ya what they stand for. the lad on Nolan the other week summed them up for me

0 |

He's 73 he'll hardly be growing in anything but age

0 |

Seems to be a bit of an ageist vibe from some folk. Disappointing.

0 |

He's being trying to get elected for 40 years.

0 |

Don't trust any poltician who talks and does this :

www.northstandchat.com...

That's a choice to adopt that. Nobody in any walk of life does it. It screams career poltician

0 |

power move

0 |

I'm referring more to pbp than just an individual

0 |

mccann will be gold up there Tbf

looking forward to it as he now has a mandate to go with his views. don't think Carroll be much use for tv and debates. banker chat wearing thin but he done well today. got one of my perference votes anyway

1 |

They would both vote for a Republic

0 |

no doubt we'll have the likes of Patterson & Hutchinson et al, back on Nolan first thing Monday "Speaking" on behalf of all Unionists, loyalists & Protestants, with in depth analysis from great Loyalist strategists like Bryson. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out McCrae you fucking donkey..

0 |

I've barely had a minute. Did Patterson get in?

0 |

Fair play to Gerry Carroll. We used to head to shine together back in the day. Sound lad. Hope he continues to do well.

0 |

They would Muzak, still different parties though or is that all that matters? It's like dividing each party based on a united Ireland and who cares about their other policies?

0 |

Watching Scottish coverage last night and the independence issue still seems to be a huge topic there. I think we should do the same. A vote would be a good thing as it feels like a huge weight on our shoulders

0 |

Theres an independance vote later this year ffs

0 |

Seems to be? I think it will be a constant issue until they become independent

0 |

Agree RP. Nationalist/Catholic voters have become very apathetic with Stormont as clear from the continuing turnout decreases with them. This could be easily remedied with a more active approach from the 26Co and some all-island agitation.
Getting Niall O'Donnghaile into the Seanad last week was a smart move. First thing he done was introduce a bill which gives those in the 6Co a vote in the Irish Presidency. The issue of Independence should become part of everyday speak, it's the only thing that really matters anyway.

0 |

They are having another vote? Didn't even know that. Smacks of the time Ireland voted no to EU austerity only to be told to go again and do it right this tims

0 |

The Irish state could do far more indeed. Been saying for years about coming north but seeing us believing.

0 |

unrelated but what a clown lol

0 |

Seen that, snared spoofin

0 |

I disagree the "apathy" comes from the fact that right wing minded Catholics have no one to vote for, they are in essence "the unicorn" taigs that vote for unionists, as expressed through a non vote imo, FF or FG need to come north of the border and in doing so, you will see an increase in the nationalist vote. there are now three SDLP elected from unionist transfer's now this might be either to keep SF out or an expression of a desire to support a soft left political candidate an option that the PUL community don't have or the fact that the supposedly "left wing" loyalist party is the PUP who can get no traction at all with moderate Protestants for obvious reasons. The only real difference in this election is on the fringe, 2 lunatics right of Thatcher are out and replaced by 2 left of Stalin.

0 |

It's shit how voting here is seen as one side trying to vote out the other. Two opposing sides trying to keep themuns out rather than working together for the entire population.

I like pbps approach to a united Ireland with an inclusive approach to unionists. Of course that may sound impossible but it's less divisive than SFs way. I know prods who voted pbp as first choice and I would have if I had the option.

1 |

Surely the exact point of elections is to put one lot in and keep another lot out?

1 |

UK for example. People may switch between labour and Tory depending on who is running and their policies. Here for a lot of people they'll vote regardless of manifesto just to keep other side out. Tribal politics

0 |

people that can switch between Labour to Tories are cunts and should never be looked towards for an example.

0 |

Surely governance here is a complete joke anyhow, shuffling the same shitty deck every few years ?

0 |

Alison Morris, what a woman.

0 |

Got ya.

0 |

SF and sdlp down seats from last election

0 |

They lost one seat. It'll be interesting to see how pbp perform.

0 |

I imagine they'd be opposed to a lot of the DUP shite

0 |

DUP gained seats didn't them? Fuck me who votes them lol

glad to see he back of that cunt dalores Kelly. couldn't stick her at all.
