Virtual Reality

23

Tried searching for that other thread, but couldn't get any results, so will fire VR stuff in here.

Seems to be a fair bit of momentum building behind VR, and it only seems to be getting more and more interest.

i know Takk, not worth a wee punt? no one knows when gen 2 is coming out, although bound to be late 2018

0 |

They are saying ps5 won't support the current psvr so probably next gen psvr will come out when ps5 does?

0 |

PS5 wont be hitting until at least 2019/2020 with no doubt a 2nd gen PSVR in tow, so i should get a right few years out of the current wan... you grab urself a pro yet Muzka?

0 |

I can't see a PS5 in the way we used to expect new console generations. I think PS4 Pro and the One X have changed that formula. I think a PS5 without any backwards compatibility would be a massive error by Sony.

0 |

Just upgraded to a pro it’s coming this week, any ideas when PSVR 1.2 is being released in the U.K.? America has it in the fallout bundle but not here as yet

0 |

Never mind amazon site says December 2nd

0 |

I agree Matthew, gone are the generational leaps and clean slates instead it'll be incremental mid generation leaps aka the Pro with new architecture reserved for the PS5 whilst still maintaining backwards compatibility, especially now that so many have gone digital only, no way are Sony going to fuck that lot off

There's no mention of PSVR 0.2 for the UK and there'll be none until the new year, too close to Xmas besides the new version has basically the same tech except for a single cable, HDR passthrough box (rectified with an £8 hdmi switcher from Amazon) and built in earphones, tbh not worth passing up the amazing deals on at the mo for the current version

PSVR Black Friday Sales Metrics Reportedly Top Prior 18 Weeks Combined in UK, “On Par” With Launch

In a summary of Black Friday videogame and hardware sales analyses, UK-based CfK Chart-Track, citing “retail/web sales where the data is captured electronically each day via EPoS systems,” says that PlayStation VR had a “huge” week in the UK. According to the summary, PSVR unit sales during Black Friday week were “on par” with the headset’s launch week back in 2016. Furthermore, the firm says that the sell-through rate—the percent of units shipped to retailers that were then sold to customers—is “equivalent [to] the past 18 weeks [combined].”

Great to hear about the psvr more units means more support means bigger games... Can only imagine what Sony has Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games or Santa Monica are cooking away

Crazy to think where this tech is headed, I mean right now sure were limited by resolution, FOV, affordable GPU grunt etc but even the mid range PSVR is proper blown away shit, not to mention the higher end room scale VIVE.. next gen hardware is gonna be fucking incredible, when we can run current gen GFX heavy games on a lightweight wireless 4K VR unit.. fucking hell..

society is gonna implode lol kids are bad enough for sitting inside playing COD with their mates over the mic, in the next few years your inside COD seeing your mates.. yeah good luck getting them out of the house not to mention getting dad off it later in the evening when he’s in the middle of some realistic porn shoot

has no one tried the VR porn?

I think there'll be the initial heavy use of it until everyones got over the hype, it's a mainstream technology and it's just another bit of kit that you can pass time on/learn with/create with/play with. It will become a utility that people use, when they need to/want to. Of course, there will still be the group of users who are using it all the time/addicted, but there are those people who get like that with all forms of media/tech/activities/pastimes.

Played a good few hours of Skyrim again last night, fucksakes this game... Bate the first dungeon.. incredible, never realized it was so fucking cavernous in places and even though the game is showing its age it still manages to look absolutely stunning in places, got a real sense of vertico up in the ramparts when I was peering over the edge down to riverwood below, loving the stealth action and a lot easier to aim with your head than the joypad with the bow, simply look at the enemies and release my vr legs must be improving as I didn't really feel any nausea as I made my way through the barrows, ended up completely lost within the game and played till around 1:30am ffs, knackered this morning, also checked out bound a free game on PS+ that has a VR mode that again looks incredible and plays from a 3rd perspective, haven't the balls yet to try Resident Evil as walking through the dungeon I had a right few jumps with shit suddenly in your face so playing a game designed to scare the sweet fuck out of you will be something else

0 |

you sit playing I take it?

Standing to 1:30 am would have my legs wrecked

0 |

comfy as fuck sitting back on my sofa, the lead for the vr headset is really long and i simply place the camera on a wee table in front of me

0 |

Told u it was gonna be out in uk in the 4th December

0 |

you did indeed, unfortunately thon gen 1.5 unit doesn't come with the moves

Spent a few hours in VR World there yesterday. Played a load of different games and things. Good steam. Was using Rift and Vive. Vive definitely had the best 'feel' and performance, I think.

Im tempted RJ. Very tempted. But I think I'm going to hold off. Said I'm not buying anything new gaming wise until I get through a load of my Steam library and have loada other stuff I could use the money on until next gen comes out.

Might just use some of my cryptos to get next gen headset when they come out. My cryptos should be worth several million quid in the few months anyway.

VR World?? whats this??

you in newyork.. nice

0 |

how was the visuals on the rift / vive? screen etc?

0 |

Is it snowing in NY? Seen some pics earlier

0 |

Would you recommend that vr world takki? Heading to new york next month, was wondering if they had good arcades etc. That vr world sound interesting.

0 |

Just finished visit to Statue of Liberty. Went up to the crown which was pretty cool. Did Empire State Building yesterday. I wasn't overly impressed really. It's high as fuck, but that is literally it. If you're thinking about it, don't bother and put your money towards a helicopter ride or something.

In regards the VR, both systems were good, RJ. I could see the screen door effect, but I had to look. When I stopped looking, it was gone. Visuals at distance were a little blurry, but that's just another accepted standard of the current gen screen resolutions. In terms of head/hand tracking, again, both very good. There's not a big difference in them, unless you're wanting to move about a fair bit/roomscale, then it's the Vive.

No snow Muzka.

Yeah sumguy. Go as soon as it opens (12pm) and during the week. It'll be quiet then and you can just go straight on to each VR game/experience. 2 hours is enough if you go then. First thing to try is walking the plank off the side of a skyscraper. Not gonna lie, it's fucking terrifying, but a great experience lol. Don't bother with the Moveo thing. Not great tbh.

Ny this time of year is class. Been ice skating in Central Park?

0 |

Yeah, it's lovely. It's been a great temperature mostly. Jacket weather, but very comfortable. I'm not sure I'd like doing this sort of trip in the summer. Bound to be tough going with the heat and all. We walked about Central Park on the first day and a tonne of other places (too much walking about for the first day, plus I was hangin, but we just kept going and going). Did so much walking my feet have been completely fucked since. I need to use my feet more or seems. No ice skating yet, though we might do it. Every ice rink is a completely extortionate price and pretty busy though so we're thinking of just giving it a miss and doing other things instead. Ice skating is ice skating tbf. Can hit up Dundonald Ice Bowl when we get home lol

0 |

I didn't skate, sat and watched people then had a drink at the Rockefeller with everyone skating. I'd love to have joined in at but pussied out in case I fucked up my slipped disc and ruined the holiday

0 |

I'm the same with ice skating worries. Just think I'll fall and wreck myself, then think 'why risk it?

Not easy to use 'man up' and 'ice skating' in the same sentence either lol
